From the Desk of Director
I would like to thank Honorable Prime Minister, Education Minister, concerned peoples and stakeholders for taking a pragmatic initiative to enhance the quality of education and form Bangladesh Accreditation Council (BAC) that will support aspiration of students and needs of the society. The Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) has been established at Dhaka University of Engineering & Technology (DUET), Gazipur on 1st July 2015 in order to institutionalize the quality practice. At the tertiary level, it is undeniable that quality assurance is an integral part of the academic activities towards realizing the goals of quality enhancement through developing a system to unsure global standard competency of our graduates.
In fact, the IQAC not only works closely with academic and administrative offices of the university but also with the stakeholders i.e., students, alumni, employers, self-assessment and the quality assurance committees. The cell manages key quality assurance processes including curriculum design and approval; self-assessment reports and improvement plans; student and stakeholder feedback systems. Additionally, it provides information and guidance on quality assurance according to the government policies, procedures and global competency. It also offers seminars, workshops, training and advice to faculty members and staff on the different processes related to quality assurance in academic affairs as per demands of the university.
In the meantime, IQAC initiates and coordinates to complete self-assessment report on five undergraduate programs of the university. These programs also completed post self-assessment improvement plan in accordance with the external peer-reviewed report. These five programs have designed Outcome Based Education(OBE) curriculum for producing quality graduates as per stakeholders’ needs. The rest have been working on the OBE curriculum according to market demands. Teaching, learning and assessment processes will be aligned with OBE system from now on. Moreover, we have organized more than 60 training/ workshop to develop skills of academic and non-academic staff. Meanwhile, four programs have applied for accreditation to board of accreditation for engineering and technical education (BAETE) and the remaining programs are going to follow suit soon.
The IQAC of DUET holds the motto “quantity without quality is a sure prescription for disaster”. I believe that this cell would add value to the university resources and will play a pivotal role for ensuring quality of education as well as development of the university. Finally, I wish every success of the IQAC in the near future.
