Welcome to the Website of Dhaka University of Engineering & Technology, Gazipur

Dhaka University of Engineering & Technology, Gazipur (abbreviated as DUET) is a pioneer in engineering education in Bangladesh especially for the diploma engineers. DUET was founded as the College of Engineering, Dhaka in 1980. It was then renamed as Dhaka Engineering College (DEC) under the University of Dhaka in 1981, and used to offer Bachelor of Engineering programs in Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical disciplines. Dhaka Engineering College was empowered autonomy under the Bangladesh Institute of Technology ordinance no. XXI of 1986, under the name Bangladesh Institute of Technology, Dhaka (Abbreviated as BITD) to award undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. Bangladesh Institute of Technology, Dhaka became an autonomous statutory organization of Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh under the Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology, Gazipur Act 2003 in 01 September 2003. 
DUET is about is about twenty kilometers away from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Dhaka. DUET is unique in its scope and mission to foster engineering education in Bangladesh as it offers B.Sc. Engineering/B. Arch.  degree only to the eligible diploma engineers from around the country.  The M.Sc./M.Eng. and Ph.D. programs are also open for all eligible candidates who are capable of pursuing scholarly endeavors with a view to engaging in lifelong learning and thereby accelerating the education, research, innovation, publication and developments in the fields of engineering and technology. One of the leading educational and research institutes in Bangladesh, DUET plays a pivotal role in the respective domestic and global premises. At this juncture of the changes and the innovation going on all around the globe, DUET is always ready to take its lead and contribute to achieve the sustainable goals.
DUET offers high-quality research and education through its 14 departments under four faculties which are civil engineering, architecture, electrical and electronic engineering, computer science and engineering, mechanical engineering, Textile Engineering, industrial and production Engineering, chemical engineering, materials and metallurgical engineering, food engineering, chemistry, mathematics, physics, humanity and social science. The institutes include energy engineering, information and communication technology, water and environment, center for climate change and sustainability recharge. 
DUET has over 270 faculty members, over 160 officers, over 270 and over 3500 undergraduate and graduate students. Graduates from DUET have a long history of enjoying extraordinary success all over the world, with many notable alumni serving as the global leaders in their respective fields.

Vice Chancellor's Biography

Professor Dr. Mohammad Zoynal Abedin is the current Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University of Engineering & Technology (DUET), Gazipur. He is the President of the Association of Universities of Bangladesh. He is also the Chairman of the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) Gazipur Centre. 

Professor Abedin worked as the Dean in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of DUET. He also worked as the Head of Mechanical Engineering Department of DUET. In addition, he worked as the Director of the Consultancy Research and Testing Service (CRTS) of DUET.  He also served as the Member of DUET Syndicate. 

Professor Abedin has more than 25 years experience of teaching, research, publications and professional services along with the national and international projects as a technical expert and consultant. 

Professor Abedin graduated in Mechanical Engineering from BUET in 1998 and received M. Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from BUET in 2004. 

Professor Abedin’s academic journey includes postdoctoral research in the fields of HVAC, SITVC, and CFD at Yonsei University, South Korea from 2015 to 2016, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship focusing on HVAC, heat transfer, and bubble dynamics at Incheon National University, South Korea from 2016 to 2017. 

Professor Abedin earned his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Nagoya Institute of Technology, Japan, specializing in Thermo- Fluid Mechanics, Turbulence, Boundary Layer Flows, and Fluid Dynamics in 2010. His academic foundation was further solidified with an M.Sc. and B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Dhaka in 2004 and 1998, respectively.  

Professor Abedin’s research expertise spans a wide range of domains including Convective Heat Transfer, Turbulence, SITVC, Two-phase Flows, Alternative Fuels, HVAC, Computational Heat and Fluid Flow, Fire Dynamics, Waste Management, and CFD.  

Professor Abedin has made substantial contributions to the academic community, with over 75 publications in international scholarly journals and conferences. Additionally, he has supervised and guided 270 students across various academic levels, including Ph. D., M. Sc., M. Eng., and B. Sc., who have successfully completed their theses and been awarded their respective degrees under his mentorship. He has been awarded and has successfully completed numerous national and international research grants. Additionally, he is actively engaged as a technical expert and consultant in Mechanical and Electrical Plumbing (MEP), and Fire Safety and Energy Management systems, both nationally and internationally. 

Professor Abedin’s work is driven by a commitment to advancing the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields for societal betterment, reflecting his dedication to both academic excellence and practical applications.
