Department of Textile Engineering Textile Engineering Textile Engineering (TE)
Textile engineering is a branch of engineering where the principles of scientific techniques are utilized for manufacturing and development of several varieties of fabric. The main aim of this program is to design and control all aspects of textiles, its raw materials and the finished product.
Exports of textiles and garments are the principal source of foreign exchange earnings in our country. The tremendous success of readymade garment exports from Bangladesh over the last two decades has surpassed the most optimistic expectations. Today the apparel export sector is a multi-billion-dollar manufacturing and export industry in the country. The readymade garments industry acts as the backbone of our economy and as a catalyst for the development of our country. The sector accounts for 81% of total export earnings of the country.
Due to the huge demands of highly skilled manpower with technological and managerial background in textile and apparel field, this university has been started with the Department of Textile Engineering from 29 September, 2005. We offer 4 years B. Sc. in Textile Engineering degree only to the students from textile diploma background intaking 60 every year. Recently, it has launched M.Engg/ M.Sc. in Textile Engineering Program for the textile graduates.
The Department of Textile Engineering is facilitated with a galaxy of highly qualified, dynamic, dedicated, and well-experienced of 16 faculty members with global exposure.
Our aim is to make the graduates a creative, adaptable, problem solver, can take over the responsibility of management, R & D and competitiveness using current tools of engineering to design novel, functional textiles and processes. We continue to strengthen our position as a major center of excellence where scientific research is conducted and where technological advances and breakthroughs are realized.
Career Opportunities of Textile Graduates.
Bangladesh is the second-largest ready-made garment (RMG) hub after China. New entrepreneurs are increasing day by day in textile sectors especially in RMG sectors in Bangladesh. So there is a huge scope for the textile engineer’s involvement. Currently, there are more than 7200 garments and textile industries (Approximately 370 spinning mills, 23 Jute mills, 788 weaving mills, 236 dyeing and finishing mills and 5700 Garments) in Bangladesh and about 4.4 million people can work there. An undergraduate degree in textiles prepares graduates for a wide variety of careers in the textile and garments industries.
