From the Desk of Dean
Welcome to the Faculty
of Civil Engineering
Dhaka University of Engineering & Technology (DUET), Gazipur
As a premier hub for engineering excellence in Bangladesh, the
Faculty of Civil Engineering at DUET holds a unique distinction in transforming
ambitious diploma engineers into world-class professional leaders. As one of
the university's oldest and among the most prestigious faculties, we uphold a
strong commitment to quality teaching, enriched research and development
(R&D) facilities, and an outstanding team of faculty members who are deeply
engaged in innovative engineering research.
Over the years, our faculty has become a center of excellence,
devoted to providing students with a strong, broad-based fundamental education.
Our curriculum is meticulously designed to prepare students for successful
careers in industry, research, and academia, empowering them with the technical
skills and ethical values needed to make significant contributions to the
global engineering community.
Currently, the faculty includes
the following departments, institute and research center:
1.
Department of Civil Engineering
2.
Department of Architecture
3.
Institute of Water and Environment
4.
Center for Climate Change &
Sustainability Research (3CSR)
Our Academic Pillars
& Research Contributions
The faculty currently comprises specialized departments and
research bodies that work in synergy to address the infrastructural and
environmental challenges of the 21st century:
* Department of Civil Engineering:
The backbone of our faculty, focusing on the core pillars of Structural,
Geotechnical, Environmental, Transportation, and Water Resources Engineering.
Our research directly impacts national infrastructure, ensuring that bridges,
high-rises, and transport networks are resilient, safe, and sustainable.
* Department of Architecture: The
department offers five years bachelor degree in architecture. Bridging the gap
between art and engineering, this department focuses on sustainable urban
planning and aesthetic functionality. Our architects are trained to design
spaces that harmonize with the local climate and culture while utilizing modern
construction technologies to create a "Sustainable Bangladesh."
* Institute of Water and Environment:
IWE is a leading postgraduate institute dedicated to addressing critical
challenges in water security, environmental sustainability, and climate
resilience in Bangladesh and similar vulnerable regions worldwide, amid rapid
urbanization, population growth, and industrialization. Integrating
engineering, natural, and social sciences, IWE develops nature-based,
evidence-driven solutions in wastewater treatment, hydraulic modeling, flood
risk management, ecological conservation, and resource recovery. Through
interdisciplinary research, policy engagement, and strategic national and
international partnerships, the institute advances the SDGs and the
Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystem Nexus, fostering resilient and sustainable outcomes
globally.
* Center for Climate
Change & Sustainability Research (3CSR): As a specialized research center, 3CSR
is at the forefront of climate adaptation strategies. Through an
interdisciplinary endeavor, the research center aims to understand the
environment, assess the vulnerabilities of ecosystems and societies, and develop
effective strategies for adaptation and mitigation. It holds the belief that
worldwide research, innovation, and collaboration are the foundations of
finding sustainable solutions to safeguard our environment and secure a better
future for everyone.
Beyond its research initiatives, 3CSR serves as a hub for
professional development, offering specialized short courses on climate change and disaster management, Geographic
Information Systems (GIS) and its applications, Environmental Impact Assessment
(EIA), and Social Impact Assessment (SIA). The center plays a
pivotal role in GIS database management and applications in climate change, as
well as climate change impact and adaptation. By focusing on disaster risk
reduction alongside community-based adaptation, it provides data-driven
solutions and technical expertise to protect our deltaic nation from the
impacts of global warming.
We offer a diverse range of academic programs designed to foster
expertise at every level:
* Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering
(BSc. Engg.)
* Master of Engineering in Civil
Engineering (M. Engg.)
* Master of Science in Engineering
in Water & Environment (M Sc. Engg.)
* Master of Engineering in Water
& Environment (M. Engg.)
* Postgraduate Diploma in Water
& Environment (PG. Dip.)
* Master of Science in Architecture
and Built Environment (M Sc.)
* Bachelor of Architecture (B.
Arch)
* Postgraduate Diploma in Climate
Change (PG. Dip.)
* Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
At
DUET, students benefit from state-of-the-art laboratory facilities and ample
opportunities to participate in national and international competitions. Beyond
the classroom, students gain invaluable practical experience through real-world
industrial projects and corporate consultancies, bridging the gap between theoretical
knowledge and professional applications.
Building the Future
We
take immense pride in developing the next generation of engineers, architects,
and environmental specialists who will lead infrastructure development and
sustainable solutions worldwide.
