AI-driven Tools in Higher Education

Project Team Members:
Primary Objective:
The proposed study examines the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools on academic achievement and explores the feasibility of AI integration in educational paradigm transformation through a laboratory experiment.
Project Summary:
With the rapid technological transformation, Artificial
Intelligence (AI) offers new dimensions in shaping higher education. Over 40% of Al
usage in
universities increased in the past decade, enhancing global education access. Similarly,
Al
tools offer a personalized learning experience to accommodate diverse learning
requirements.
Therefore, Al-driven education tools systems offer more flexibility and adaptability.
The study first conducts an experiment on the academic credentials of engineering
students.
In this phase, we conduct a baseline survey on how Al tools influence academic success.
The
outcome indicators are students' perceptions, continuous and final assessment scores,
and
the Turnitin generated similarity index for specific issues on creative thinking and
academic writing. This study estimates a weighted index for explaining overall impacts
as
multiple factors are involved.
Using linear regression models, such as ordinary least square models (OLS), this study
also
statistically identifies the causal factors that could influence AI uses and relevant
challenges. In the second stage, we design an Al training intervention for laboratory
experiments, choosing students for intervention and comparison groups. We will conduct
another survey round after the training and access intervention. Using the
difference-in-difference model (DID), this study will estimate the treatment effect of
the
Al training program on outcomes. This study finally explores the feasibility of
integrating
Al systems to transform educational paradigms using quantitative and qualitative
methods.
The study helps design a framework for responsible Al use, ethical adoption for
integrity,
and integrating Al-driven tools into curricula to prepare students for technological
advancement.
