From the Desk of Head
The Department of Mathematics attained its present status of an independent department in 1980. Growing steadily, today the department not only teaches various topics in mathematics to undergraduate and postgraduate students of different engineering disciplines but also independently launched M. Phil. and Ph. D. programs major in pure, Industrial and Applied Mathematics and also has a visionary plan to initiate full pledged M. Sc. program with parallel to other universities of the country.
The Department of Mathematics at this university has an active research faculty, including participation in interdisciplinary collaborations. Faculty members in the Department of Mathematics at this University conduct research in the following areas: Theory of Partial differential equations, Fluid Flow, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Aerodynamics, Turbulent flow, Blood flow, Lattice Boltzmann Method, MHD flow, Heat Transfer, Algebra and Number theory, Analysis and differential equations, Bioinformatics and mathematical biology, Discrete mathematics, Mathematics education, and Probability and stochastic processes. Our faculties are publishing their research finding in various reputed international and national Journals and also presenting their works in various conferences. Furthermore, department is always active in hosting of various national conference, seminar and workshop in diverse part of mathematics. We are also determined to create an excellent academic and research environment with full cooperation of our qualified colleagues, faculties and students for the welfare of DUET. Recently, a project funded by HEQEP (Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project) has also been completed in this department. Besides the central Computing facilities of the University, the department has its own state of the art Computational Lab and a Mathematical simulation Lab having 30 high quality computers, Fluent Ansys software and other supporting facilities are set for research facilities. We are having forwarded to our mission with 7 Professors, 8 Assistant professors, 4 Lecturers and 4 dedicated staffs of the Department. All of them are outstanding professionals committed to teaching excellence and they take great pride in guiding our students to enjoy the beauty of Mathematics.
The Department wishes to focus on providing a comprehensive curriculum at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, relevant research and career opportunities in native and abroad. In fact, our vision is to pursue the excellence in mathematics education and to do quality research in Mathematics.
