Md. Saifuddin Faruk received the B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in electrical and electronic engineering from KUET, Bangladesh in 2003 and BUET, Bangladesh in 2006, respectively and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering and information systems from the University of Tokyo, Japan in 2011.

He joined as a faculty member in the department of electrical and electronic engineering of Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET), Bangladesh in 2004. Currently he is on leave from DUET and working as Senior Research Associate at the University of Cambridge, UK. During 2015-2017, he served as Marie Curie Research Fellow in the University College London (UCL) and the University of Cambridge, UK. He also worked as short term visiting researcher at Telekom Malaysia (TM) R&D, Malaysia, VPIphotonics GmbH, Germany, and Orange Polska, Poland. His current research interest includes DSP for coherent transceivers and optical access networks. He was got excellent achievement award for his PhD thesis from University of Tokyo and best student paper award from Opto-electronic and communication conference (OECC), 2011.
